Genealogical Society meets Sept. 16
CASSADAGA -- The next meeting for the Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16 in the Cassadaga American Legion on Maple Avenue Historian Todd Langworthy will present a program about George Washington, comparing his real life and what is dramatized in the movie “Young Washington” which was a hit over the summer. Langworthy will shed light on the life of Washington, who is often referred to as the father of our country.
Attendees will learn about Washington as a man, as well as his important place in our history. The business meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7. Meetings are open to the public.
Langworthy is a retired public school Social Studies teacher, as well as a retired adjunct professor in the History Department at SUNY Fredonia. Langworthy was also the Town of Pomfret Historian for 20 years prior to his retirement.
Fredonia High School class planning 65th reunion
It's hard to believe that 65 years have passed since the Class of 1961 walked the Fredonia High school halls together, shared school days, laughter dreams and the beginning of friendship that have lasted a lifetime.
So much has changed over the years, and each of us has traveled our own path. Yet the memories we made together remain a measured part of who we are. A 65th reunion is a remarkable milestone -and a wonderful reason to pause, reconnect and celebrate the people who shared early years with us.
Let's come together to reminisce about the good times, share stories, laugh about the memories we may have forgotten and simply enjoy being together again.

-- Saturday, October 3, The White Inn-Porch, Food and drinks will be available.
There is no money required up front. Everyone will simply be responsible for paying for their own food and drinks at each gathering. This keeps things easy and casual for everyone.

City changes plans with brush
The City of Dunkirk Public Works Department is informing residentsthe citywide curbside brush pickup for the month of September, as previously scheduled, is canceled as it is unfunded.
However, residents will be able to drop off brush at the Lucas Avenue site beginning Monday Sept. 28 through Friday Oct. 2 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Saturday Oct. 3 from 8 a.m to 4 p.m.
Those dropping off their brush must show proof of Dunkirk residency.
Brush, limbs, leaves and grass clippings only will be accepted during drop off. Trees/logs will not be accepted.
