Library plans Saturday authors, zoo
SINCLAIRVILLE -- The community is invited to the Sinclairville Free Library on Saturday to meet local authors from 1 to 3 p.m. during this year's History Fair. Some of the creative people you will meet: J. Andersen, author of "At What Cost" and the Destiny by Design series; Sarah Bless “Adventures with Dad"; Holly Beatrice Bless "Popcorn Ceilings: A Collection of Poems"; Ann Brantingham (artist) and books by the late John Brantingham; AK Coulter "Windblown"; Sally Ferguson (multiple publications); and Paul Leone "One Hundred and Fifty-Four Sonnets" and "The Marlow Murder."
Other special events at the library on Saturday include: The Erie Outreach Traveling Zoo program and face painting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Coffee group meets Friday
Roblin Steel Coffee group will meet on Friday at the Crossroads Diner in Sheridan at 9 a.m. Former employees and family are invited to attend.
Open house for New York Medical Center planned
IRVING -- New York Medical Center is holding an open house today from 2 to 4:30 p.m. today at 845 Routes 5 and 20. Community members are invited to tour the new Substance Use Disorder Treatment Center and learn more about the care and services it will provide.
Raffle sales benefit Ringler scholarship awards
The first South Shore Rod & Gun Club Dean Ringler Senior Award gun raffle took place on Aug. 9. Karen McDonald DeLeon was drawn as the winner of this year’s raffle.
Proceeds from the raffle ticket sales directly fund the Dean Ringler Senior Award. This year, five local high school seniors were selected to each receive $2,000 to assist with their post-graduation endeavors. The recipients are as follows: Giada Kirell, Dunkirk High School; Liam McQuiggan, Dunkirk High School; Anthony Mitchell, Brocton High School; Gianna Leone Novelli, Fredonia High School and Jasiret Orsini, LoGudice BOCES.
The South Shore Rod & Gun Club extends a sincere thank you to everyone in the community who purchased tickets, as well as the many individuals and establishments throughout the area that sold tickets and/or donated money to support this award that assists our local youth in continuing their career goals.
Computer classes set at Dunkirk Public Library
The Dunkirk Public Library, 536 Central Ave., has announced computer classes for September, including: Setting Up and Maintaining On-Line Payments, today, from 1 to 2 p.m.; More Than Just a Library Card on Sept. 15 from 1 to 2 p.m.; Ancestry Library Edition on Sept. 17 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.; Monitoring Your Subscriptions on Sept. 23 from 1 to 2 p.m.; Using Tele-Health Services on Sept. 29 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Sheridan church plans chicken barbecue
SHERIDAN -- The Sheridan United Methodist Church will hold its annual Chicken Barbecue Fundraiser on Saturday September 26, from noon till 4 p.m., or until sold out. The barbecue will be provided on site by Chiavetta’s, 2679 Route 20 in Sheridan, and is drive-through take out only.

Fred Basket sets monthly hours
On Saturday, Sept. 19 Fred Basket previously known as The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. Additionally, on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Guests may only receive one helping a month. These new hours hope to serve those who cannot attend on Saturdays the food pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, ZIP code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan and Laona.
All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.
