Brocton sets special meeting

BROCTON - The Board of Trustees will be holding a special meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 34 West Main St. with the sole purpose to approve the purchase of new fire hydrants.

Boozy Bingo night planned for Oct. 10

SHERIDAN -- The Dunkirk Lakeshore Bowling Association is sponsoring a Boozy Bingo night Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Sheridan VFW. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the first round begins at 7. The $5 admission includes beer and pop and one set of bingo cards. There will also be 50-50 raffles and a lottery tree raffle. Everyone is welcome for a fun night. Must be 21 and over to participate in bingo.

Fly fishing classes start up on Tuesday

The Children in the Stream Youth Fly Fishing /4H Program starts its 32nd year of free programming in our community. Fly tying and fly fishing classes begin again every Tuesday starting on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will continue through May 18 in the Costello Room in the Rockefeller Art Center at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Classes and supplies are provided at no cost. No long-term commitment or prior experience is needed. There will be no classes on Nov. 24, and Dec. 15 through Jan. 19, 2027

Villenova Burial Association meets

SOUTH DAYTON -- The 2026 Annual Fall Meeting of the Villenova Burial Association will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Villenova Town Hall, 1094 Butcher Road, South Dayton.

This is a member meeting for anyone who owns a lot or has a family member buried in the Villenova Cemetery. As a member, you are a part of the VBA and responsible for the Cemetery's future operation and upkeep. The Trustees would welcome your attendance at, and participation in, this meeting, as we work to preserve our 200+ year old Cemetery!

Legion lists upcoming events, flag retirement ceremony

Fredonia American Legion Post 59 will be conducting an American Flag retirement ceremony Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at 161 Chautauqua Road, Fredonia. In honor of the flag and all it represents, we will properly retire worn and damaged American flags. Let us come together for the flag and those who have served.

On Sunday, Oct. 11, American Legion Post 59 will hold a Weidner's chicken barbecue at the Post, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia from 11 a.m. until sold out. The cost is $15 per dinner. Proceeds go toward parking lot improvements. Drive through or dine in options are available.

Silver Creek Senior Citizens meet

SILVER CREEK - The Silver Creek Seniors met on Sept. 29 with 20 members present. President Randy Nurmi opened the meeting with all saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America. Chaplain Pauline Flitt read "In the quiet hush of morning" and offered a prayer for the members and the lunch of hot dogs, salads and desserts. Thank you to Earl and Jeff for manning the grill.

The "sign in" winners were Jay Clark, Janice Snyder and Annette Hoeber. The 50-50 winners were Ruth Sheeler, Harry Suski and Ginny Chesbro. Wheel of fortune lucky winners included Pauline, John Czuba, Carol Struwe, Ginny, and Ruth. Lorrie Newman called bingo and the winners were: Carol DePasquale (4 times), Al Wilson, Jay, Earl Sheeler, Lorrie, Carol Struwe, Pauline, Joan Militello and Ginny. For next week's lunch the group will have snacks and finger foods. Bring your own sandwich for something more substantial.

This Senior Group meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m., arrive by 12:30 p.m. Call Lorrie for information at 716-785-1074. Note: The group is inviting everyone 55 years of age or older to come and join in the fun.
