Fredonia market, library ready for Halloween

This Saturday, the Fredonia Farmers' Market and Darwin R Barker Library will hold the annual Halloween celebration. All are invited to attend the market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in beautiful Barker Commons for pumpkin decorating, trick-or-treating, and a special Halloween storytime at the library at 10:30. Canadaway 4-H Club will be present with information about 4-H programs (goodies too!).

Market vendors will have all their usual huge variety of fresh local produce, maple products, local raw honey, baked goods, delicious ready-to-eat foods, meats, eggs, pure beeswax candles, and herbal products.

This Saturday will be the last summer market downtown on the Commons. Next week, Nov. 7, it will move to the winter location at the Fredonia Masonic Lodge, 321 E. Main St. Please take note that winter hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spaghetti dinner planned at Elks Lodge Tuesday

The Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922 is holding its annual Election Day Spaghetti Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lodge, 428 Central Ave. Dinners are $12 for adults and $8 for children. Dinners include a generous portion of spaghetti, sauce, meatballs, side salad, bread and butter, and dessert. So go out and vote, then come over to the Lodge and have dinner. And if you vote early, then just come over and get something to eat.

Village planning leaf collection

The village of Fredonia will be collecting loose and bagged leaves throughout the village beginning Monday. Loose leaves may be raked to the curb and bagged leaves placed at the curb do not place leaves in the road.

There is no set schedule; crews will cover the Village section by section and will repeat this pattern weather permitting. Please do not cover sewer vents or water boxes or put leaves over branches as they will plug up the leaf machines. If branches are found in the leaf pile leaves will not be collected.

Residents are encouraged to place leaves in bags as bagged leaf collection can continue when weather prohibits loose leaf collection. Loose leaf pickup will continue as weather permits. No brush or limbs will be collected at this time. Residents are reminded they may bring yard waste to 176 Eagle St. at the Department of Public Works.

Starting at /week.
