SILVER CREEK — Middle and high school classes in Silver Creek are remote today and Tuesday after a staff member was in contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

On the school’s Facebook page Sunday afternoon, the district sent the notice that the staff member was involved in the interaction early last week and had no knowledge of the individual’s COVID status. “At this time, there is no reason to believe that any other Silver Creek staff or students have been exposed, as the COVID positive individual is from outside of the Silver Creek Central School District community, and there has not been any positive COVID test result from a Silver Creek staff member. When the staff member learned of this, they immediately self-quarantined, took a COVID test, and reported this information to their school supervisor,” the post says.

The district said the middle and high school students are following their remote Friday schedules with both Monday and Tuesday being “A Days” of remote and virtual instruction. Elementary students will continue as normal with their in person schedule. Middle and high school staff reported to work as normal and conducted remote learning from their classrooms.

“The cistrict has been in contact with the Chautauqua County Department of Health regarding this situation, and we have been informed that no other individuals, besides the staff member, are required to quarantine, nor are we required to close any of the District’s buildings,” the post said.

In addition to the remote classes, sports will not begin until at least Wednesday.

According to the state COVID-19 Report Card for schools, there are no cases of COVID-19 in the district.
