County reports 25th COVID death, 71 new cases

The Chautauqua County Department of Health reported another COVID-related death Thursday, the 25th to date.

The county also recorded 71 new cases in addition to 34 people with the virus in the hospital, a drop of two from information released Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 17 involve people living in the Jamestown zip code. To date, of the 2,649 total confirmed cases in the county, 25% have come from Jamestown.

Elsewhere, 23 new cases were reported in Mayville; eight in Dunkirk, two in Fredonia and three each in Silver Creek and Bemus Point.

As of Thursday, there were 391 active cases, an increase of six from Wednesday’s information. The number of recoveries, meanwhile, has now reached 2,233 people, in addition to 1,443 people in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 8.8%.
