County reports 54 new COVID cases

The city of Jamestown continues to see a surge of new COVID-19 cases, with 22 more people added in statistics released Wednesday by the Chautauqua County Department of Health. Overall, the county recorded 54 new cases, marking 3,058 to date.

In addition to 22 new cases involving people living in the Jamestown zip code, seven were reported in Fredonia, six in Dunkirk and three in Frewsburg. Several municipalities recorded one or two new cases as well.

Information released by the county Health Department is data from Tuesday.

The number of city residents confirmed to have the virus has reached 799, or 26.1% of all the cases countywide to date. The number of active cases was at 114, the county said.

Meanwhile, the number of people in the hospital with COVID-19 rose to 37, an increase of two. The number of total active cases, though, continues to drop with 377 reported Wednesday.

There have been 2,655 total recoveries, 26 deaths, 1,422 people in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 7.1%.

In neighboring Cattaraugus County, 26 new COVID cases were reported Tuesday evening, marking 2,108 cases to date in addition to 35 hospitalizations, 1,603 recoveries and 38 virus-related deaths.
