County crosses 100 virus-related deaths; 6,500 total cases

Chautauqua County officially crossed the 100 COVID death mark with the addition of six newly recorded fatalities Thursday.

To date, 103 people have died with the virus, according to information provided by the county Health Department.

Health officials also noted 102 new COVID cases, which brings to the total to 6,500.

According to county data, four of the total deaths involve people between the ages of 40 and 49; three between 50 and 59; eight between 60 and 69; 25 between 70 and 79; 40 between 80 and 89; and 23 over the age of 90.

Of the new cases, 18 have come from the Dunkirk zip code, nine in Fredonia, 28 in Jamestown, six in Falconer and nine in Lakewood.

The county also has updated the number of people who have received doses of the COVID vaccine. As of Jan. 23, the latest available to date, 7,849 people (6.05% of the county population) have received their first dose, with 1,046 people (0.81%) received the second dose.
