There are now over 600 active cases of COVID-19 after the Chautauqua County Health Department announced, via its dashboard, that 418 new cases of the coronavirus were reported from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2.

The county also reported four new fatalities over three-day stretch as well 50 hospitalizations, an increase of five since Dec. 30.

Of the new cases, 120 were reported in the Jamestown zip code, which now has 171 active cases. There are also 93 new cases in the Dunkirk zip code, which now has 113 active cases. Fredonia has 48 new cases and the village of Lakewood also has 22 new cases.

Since March, the county has recorded 4,097 cases of the coronavirus and has recorded 1,090 since Dec. 22.
