Active COVID cases, positivity rate fall in Chautauqua County

The number of active COVID-19 cases, as well as those in quarantine and the seven-day positivity rate, dropped significantly in new statistics released Tuesday by the Chautauqua County Department of Health.

It’s the first set of new data released on local COVID numbers since Friday due to the Presidents Day holiday.

The health departments noted there were 186 active cases of the virus, down from 229 reported late last week. There were also 602 people in quarantine, a drop from 693, as well as a seven-day positivity rate of 2%.

The county did record 101 new cases for the four days, Friday through Monday, along with one new COVID-related fatality.

To date there have been 7,313 total confirmed cases and 135 virus-related fatalities.

In Cattaraugus County, 19 new COVID cases were announced Monday evening. There are currently 239 active cases, 3,801 recoveries, 24 people with the virus in the hospital and a seven-day positivity rate of 4.3%.

To date there have been 4,124 total confirmed cases and 83 virus-related deaths.
