County reports 42 new confirmed COVID cases

The Chautauqua County Department of Health on Thursday reported 42 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, the first significant bump in cases in a couple of weeks.

There have been 7,902 confirmed cases to date, in addition to 7,611 recoveries and 141 virus-related deaths.

Of the new cases identified, 12 came from the Dunkirk zip code, eight in Falconer, three in Westfield, seven in Jamestown, two in Bemus Point and Frewsburg and one each in Fredonia, Brocton, Cassadaga, Clymer, Gerry, Panama, Sherman and Sinclairville.

There are currently 150 active cases, nine people with the virus in the hospital and 397 in quarantine. The seven-day positivity rate was at 1%, the county Health Department said.
