COVID hospitalizations up, but active cases and quarantines down

The number of Chautauqua County residents in the hospital with COVID-19 increased slightly over the weekend. However, active cases, those in quarantine and the seven-day positivity rate all dropped, according to information released Monday by the county Health Department.

There are currently 12 people hospitalized, a bump from the eight last reported Friday.

Meanwhile, active cases dipped to 109 (from 154); those in quarantine dropped significantly to 407 (from 505); and the seven-day positivity rate decreased from 2.3% to 1.6%.

The health department recorded 33 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, averaging 11 cases between Friday and Sunday.

To date there have been 8,855 confirmed cases of the virus in the county, 8,599 recoveries and 147 virus-related deaths.

According to the state, 50,808 Chautauqua County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 39,135 have completed their vaccination series.
