More than 50K have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine locally

Javits Convention Center after receiving COVID-19 vaccines in the Manhattan borough of New York. Millions of New Yorkers with health conditions that leave them at high risk of illness from the coronavirus can now sign up for appointments at state-run vaccination sites like this one, but a shortage of vaccine supply means many will be frustrated in their search. More than 50,000 Chautauqua County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, state statistics indicate. That represents about 39% of the county’s entire population, while — according to county data that slightly lags state information — 42.75% of eligible residents over the age of 16 have received a shot.

Meanwhile, 36,986 residents have completed their vaccine series — meaning they have either received both of the two-shot vaccines or have received the one-dose shot.

The county should see a significant boost in those who have completed the vaccination process shortly. That’s because thousands of local residents who took part in one of a series of mass vaccination clinics about a month ago — many held at SUNY Fredonia and Jamestown Community College — will soon return for second doses.

In Cattaraugus County, 25,219 residents have received at least one dose while 19,485 have completed their vaccination series.

Anyone who has not received a vaccine and would like one will have a much easier time booking an appointment locally now that vaccines have become more readily available.

Pharmacy Innovations, located at 863 Fairmount Ave., Jamestown, has 80 doses of the Moderna vaccine that need to be used by Tuesday. Courtney Messina, Pharmacy Innovations quality assurance director, said the vaccine is free to those who want to sign up, which can be done online by visiting pharmacyinnovations.net or by calling 484-1586.

She said people receiving the vaccine will have their second shot appointment scheduled during their visit. The pharmacy is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

According to the Chautauqua County Health Department’s website, the only COVID-19 vaccine clinic available the rest of April will be taking place from 2-7 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the Mina-Findley Lake Community Center, located at 2883 North Road, Findley Lake. The administering agency is Kinney Drugs. The Pfizer vaccine being administered. New York state residents 18 years and older may attend, and participants must show identification and bring their insurance card. Transportation assistance is available for this clinic by calling NY Connects at 753-4582 or Community Connections at Findley Lake 769-2473.
