New COVID cases continue climb, hospitalizations dip

New COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Chautauqua County, but those in the hospital with the virus have dipped.

The county Health Department on Thursday recorded 27 new confirmed cases from information collected on Wednesday. Of those, six come from Jamestown, four in Falconer, three each in Dunkirk and Fredonia, two each in Gerry, Lakewood and Stockton, and one each in Cherry Creek, Mayville, Ripley, Sherman and Westfield.

The county also noted one new virus-related death.

To date there have been 8,809 total confirmed cases, 8,472 recoveries and 147 virus-related fatalities.

Those in the hospital with COVID-19 did drop from Wednesday to Thursday — from 12 to seven. Those in quarantine did jump, from 500 to 565, while the seven-day positivity rate is at 2.1%.
