County surpasses 9K COVID recoveries

Those considered recovered from COVID-19 in Chautauqua County officially crossed the 9,000 mark in statistics released Tuesday.

To date, 9,005 local residents have recovered from the virus, while there have been 9,222 total confirmed cases. The county Health Department recorded 20 new cases from information collected Monday while there are currently 63 active cases, 186 people in quarantine and three with COVID in the hospital.

The county also noted one new virus-related death, the 154th such fatality during the pandemic.

Vaccination rates also continue to climb locally. According to New York state, 49,124 county residents have completed their vaccination series while 56,946 have received at least one shot.

As of Tuesday, 54.2% of the county’s population over the age of 18 have received at least one shot.

In Cattaraugus County, there have been 5,674 total confirmed cases of the virus in addition to 5,491 recoveries and 104 virus-related deaths. There are currently 78 active cases, 12 people with the virus in the hospital and 402 in quarantine.

To date, 25,199 residents of Cattaraugus County have completed their vaccination series while 29,619 have received at least one shot, according to New York’s vaccine tracker.
