County reports 112 new cases of COVID

The county Health Department on Friday reported 112 new cases of COVID-19. The number of people with the virus in the hospital remains at 24, a day after it doubled.

Of the new cases, from information collected Thursday, 45 came from people residing in the Jamestown zip code. Other areas of note: 14 in Fredonia, eight in Dunkirk and five each in Falconer and Ashville.

There are currently 336 active cases of the virus in the county, a drop of nine from Thursday’s numbers; 705 people in quarantine, a jump of 81 from the previous day; and a seven-day positivity rate of 9.1%, which is unchanged.

There have been 1,245 new cases since Aug. 1, with 56% involving people not vaccinated, 17% fully vaccinated, 7% partially vaccinated and 20% whose vaccination status was not known.

Regarding vaccinations, 61.8% of the population over the age of 12 in Chautauqua County have received at least one dose while 56.4% are considered fully vaccinated.
