County reports 66 new COVID cases, new virus death

The Chautauqua County Department of Health reported 66 new cases of COVID-19 as well as a new virus-related death. The information was collected Tuesday.

Of the new cases, 16 came from people living in the Jamestown zip code; 13 in Fredonia; six in Dunkirk; four in Frewsburg; three each in Silver Creek, Ashville, Bemus Point and Portland; two each in Westfield, Lakewood and Falconer; and one each in Forestville, South Dayton, Brocton, Clymer, Dewittville, Kennedy, Panama, Ripley and Sherman.

The number of active cases of the virus increased, from 302 to 336, while those with COVID in the hospital remains at 12 and people in quarantine at 500.

There have been 10,392 confirmed cases to date as well as 9,890 recoveries and 166 virus-related deaths.

Since Aug. 1, there have been 1,048 new confirmed cases. Of those, 60% involve those not vaccinated, 19% were fully vaccinated, 7% partially vaccinated and 14% whose vaccination status was not known.
