New COVID cases have increased each week

The Chautauqua County Department of Health reported 579 new cases of COVID-19 for the week ending Oct. 2. The county also noted four virus-related deaths, marking 189 to date.

The health department recently changed its reporting method of COVID statistics, going from a daily report to a weekly report. The state still keeps track of daily COVID information.

The county has seen an increase in new cases each week since August. They break down as follows: 113 cases the week ending Aug. 21; 270 the week ending Aug. 28; 285 the week ending Sept. 4; 413 the week ending Sept. 11; 491 the week ending Sept. 18; 523 the week ending Sept. 25; and 579 the week ending Oct. 2.
