Rate of COVID cases trend upward in county

After a couple of weeks with new COVID-19 cases trending downward in Chautauqua County, the rate appears to be going in the other direction.

The county Health Department on Wednesday announced 313 new cases for the week ending Oct. 30 along with five new virus-related deaths.

To date there have been 13,441 confirmed cases of COVID in the county, 12,934 recoveries and 211 deaths. As of Oct. 30 there were 296 active cases, 15 people with the virus in the hospital and 694 in quarantine.

For the week ending Oct. 23 there 287 cases recorded; 234 cases the week ending Oct. 16; 428 cases the week ending Oct. 9; and 579 cases the week ending Oct. 2.

Since Aug. 1 there have been 4,005 cases recorded in the county. Of those, 56% have involved people not vaccinated against the virus, 13% who were fully vaccinated, 6% partially vaccinated and 25% whose vaccination status was not known.

Regarding vaccinations, 66.5% of the county’s population over the age of 12 have received at least one dose while 61% have been fully vaccinated.
