Boaters safe after vessel capsizes on Chautauqua Lake

ASHVILLE — Two boaters are safe after their vessel capsized on Chautauqua Lake on Saturday afternoon.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Navigation Deputies responded to the accident around 2 p.m. near the Loomis Bay Road area. Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies observed a good Samaritan vessel towing the capsized fishing boat. One subject wearing a life jacket was in the water on the fishing boat that was being towed into shore.

The operator of vessel stated he had a passenger on the Bass Boat who had swam to shore. Sheriff’s deputies from the Navigation Division secured both the driver of the Bass boat as well as the passenger on a dock near the accident.

The driver of the boat along with the passenger were being transported to the launch area of Prendergast Point via Navigation Deputies when the passenger of the Bass Boat began to show signs of shock and or hypothermia and stated he was not feeling well.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Navigation Deputies discontinued travel to Prendergast Point and stopped at Long Point Sheriff’s subdivision to render First Aid. Bemus Point Fire Department responded and transported subject to UPMC Chautauqua.
