Chautauqua County Clerk Larry Barmore is warning the public of a scam involving the Department of Motor Vehicles.

In a statement Monday afternoon, Barmore said, “Many people in Chautauqua county are receiving text messages that appear to be from the DMV telling them that they must update their contact information with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

“This is a scam and anyone receiving a text like this should ignore it and delete it from their phone. The DMV never sends requests to update information by text or email. The only text or email you will get from the DMV is a reminder that your registration or inspection is about to expire if you have signed up for that service.”
