Ohio Man Dies In Ripley Logging Accident

An Ohio man has been killed in a logging accident in Ripley.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a logging accident at 9:21 a.m. Saturday on Klondike Road in Ripley to help Ripley volunteer firefighters.

David Byler, 46, of Middlefield, Ohio, was about a half of a mile back in a wooded area cutting trees and, while doing so, had a tree fall on him. Ripley and South Ripley firefighters responded along with Chautauqua County EMS.

Byler was taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital and air lifted to Hamot Hospital in Pennsylvania. Byler died on Sunday.
