UPDATE: Six being assisted after blaze damages city home
Two adults and four children who live at 75 W. Fourth St. were being assisted by the Red Cross after a blaze heavily damaged portions of the structure on Monday morning.
Dunkirk Fire Department reports receiving a call regarding the blaze just before 10:40 a.m. Upon arrival, heavy fire conditions were found at the rear of the house. An occupant of the house who was home at the time of the fire was evacuated without injury.
Firefighters extinguished the main body of the fire quickly and removed a dog and two cats from the residence. Moderate smoke damage also was reported. There were no injuries.
Mutual aid was received from East Dunkirk Fire and the Chautauqua County Air Unit, R-71.
West Fourth was closed from Plover to Robin streets during the blaze. Dunkirk Police Department also assisted at the scene.
The fire remains under investigation.
