Incident near roundabout leads to charges for Fredonia woman

A Fredonia woman’s incident near the roundabout early Saturday led to charges of felony driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and second-degree criminal impersonation.

Troopers charged Ashley Bass, 30, after they observed a vehicle driving east on Route 20 in Fredonia cross completely into the westbound lane, then overcorrect and drive over a cement curb, shearing a sign and continue toward the traffic circle at Route 60. The vehicle was stopped on Route 60 and after failing several field sobriety tests, Bass, who initially identified herself as another individual, was placed under arrest.

Bass was transported to the Fredonia barracks where she provided a breath sample of 0.16. As Bass’ driving record revealed that she had been convicted of Driving While Intoxicated twice within the preceding 10 years, the charge was upgraded to a felony.

Bass’ driving privileges in New York had also been revoked for an alcohol-related offense. Bass was processed, issued traffic tickets and an appearance ticket, and is scheduled to be in the village of Fredonia Court later in the month.
