A 34-year-old city man who had been on the Jamestown Police Department’s Top 10 most wanted list was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a Cowden Place home Monday afternoon.

Silk E. Spencer surrendered to authorities after about two hours. No injuries were reported.

Police had received information that Spencer — wanted on multiple felony warrants including assault from a prior stabbing incident, second-degree robbery and two counts of aggravated family offense — was inside a home at 15 Cowden Place. When officers approached, the city man reportedly barricaded himself inside the basement and advised that he was “going to start shooting and that he was going to kill officers,” Jamestown police said in a news release.

During the standoff, dozens of residents gathered on both sides of the road and watched as police surrounded the property. Those who assisted at the scene included the New York State Police, Jamestown SWAT team, Jamestown Fire Department, Alstar EMS and the police department’s Crisis Resolution Team.

Spencer surrendered to police around 6:30 p.m. and was transported to jail where he was held pending arraignment. No weapons were discovered at the time of his arrest.

New charges are expected as the result of Monday’s incident, JPD said.
