The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazards statement for Chautauqua and Erie counties today, warning people to stay out of the water.

“Strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions expected,” the statement reads. It’s in effect from noon today through late tonight.

A strong cold front is expected to pass through this afternoon, bringing high winds and a slight possibility of severe thunderstorms, according to the weather service.
