Gerry man facing assault charge in morning incident
A Gerry man is facing assault charges after seriously injuring someone early Tuesday.
Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded along with Gerry volunteer firefighters around 12:50 a.m. for an injured person. The incident occurred on Gerry Ellington Road, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
An investigation found that 29-year-old Douglas Woodard struck another person with a sharp object, “causing serious physical injury,” the Sheriff’s Office said. The victim was transported to UPMC Chautauqua then UPMC Hamot for treatment.
Woodard was transported to Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment on a second-degree assault charge.
