More information released after body found in Jamestown

Police are pictured on Price Street in Jamestown after a body was discovered Tuesday afternoon.

The Jamestown Police Department on Thursday released more information after the body of a woman was found during a welfare check earlier this week.

A city man, 32-year-old Geoffrey P. Ghiandoni, is facing a fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon charge after a .22 caliber rifle was located inside the same residence; however, the department does not believe the gun was involved in the woman’s death.

Officers were called to 118 Price St. around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday to check the well-being of a woman, whom family had not heard from in several days.

After forcing entry, the woman’s body and Ghiandoni were found inside. The woman appeared to have been dead for several days, JPD announced in a news release.

The victim’s name has not been released. The body was taken late Tuesday night to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office in Buffalo where an autopsy was performed early Wednesday morning.

The official results of the autopsy are pending further tests and toxicology.

Ghiandoni is being held on the weapon’s charge due to a prior felony conviction.

The investigation into the woman’s death remains ongoing. The department is being assisted by the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office and local office of the FBI.

Anyone who may have information on the woman’s death is asked to contact the Jamestown Police at 483-7537 or via the anonymous tips line at 716-483-Tips (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.

Starting at $3.50/week.
