More information released after man fell down cliff

BROCTON — A man who reportedly fell 30 feet down a cliff where he then became stuck for about an hour and a half was evaluated at a local hospital.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office provided the OBSERVER with more information regarding Monday’s incident at DJ’s Campground, located at 6752 Route 5 in the town of Portland.

Firefighters from Portland and Brocton along with sheriff’s deputies, Chautauqua County EMS and the county’s Tech Rescue Team all responded to Route 5. The initial request for help came in around 3 p.m.

Capt. Rich Telford of the Sheriff’s Office said members of the Tech Rescue Team descended down the cliff to get to the man. He was extricated around 4:30 p.m.

A medical helicopter had been requested, but the man was eventually transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital to be checked.
