Positivity rate in region remains near 5%, state reports

Metropolitan New York continues to lead the way when it comes to the lowest positivity rates for COVID-19 in the state.

According to numbers released Saturday afternoon, the New York City region has a rate of 2.07%. Western New York remains in the middle with a rate of 4.75%. The North Country region has the highest number at 5.85%.

“We are continuing to partner with localities and health providers to make sure the vaccine is accessible in every part of the state,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “We know the vaccine works, and we know that by not taking it you are many times more vulnerable to the most severe symptoms of COVID-19. If you still need to get your shot, you need to do so for your safety and the safety of everyone around you.”

Through Friday, more than 68,000 in Chautauqua County have received a first dose of the vaccine — that’s a rate of more than 53%.
