Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office

RIPLEY — A Westfield man is facing charges following a crash Friday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Deputies were alerted around 6 a.m. for a crash in which a vehicle struck a utility pole on Route 20 in the town of Ripley. Upon arrival it was learned that the driver of the vehicle had fled after the collision.

The driver was later identified as 30-year-old Ronald W. Swan III, who was located outside a nearby residence.

An investigation found that Swan was intoxicated. He was processed at the Westfield Police Department and scheduled to appear in Ripley Town Court later on charges of driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and moving from lane unsafely.
