A West Seneca man and a 2-year-old boy were safe after the man’s pickup truck inadvertently went onto Bear Lake in the town of Stockton before breaking through the ice on Friday evening.

The New York State Police said the driver, who was reportedly unfamiliar with the area, was unaware he had made it onto the frozen portion of the lake.

The man called 911 to report that the vehicle had went through the ice and that he and the child were still inside. The man was able to get out with his son and make it to the shore.
