Jamestown fire claims life of 19-year-old

A 19-year-old rescued from a burning home died from his injuries Friday evening. The male was one of two removed, the other being a 3-year-old, from the multi-family residence at 109 Kidder St.

Members of the Jamestown Fire Department were alerted around 1:45 p.m. to the blaze, at the corner of Kidder and Broadhead Avenue, and were notified of possible entrapment within the residence.

Once on scene, first responders removed two victims located on the first floor, the Jamestown Police Department said in a news release.

Both victims were transported to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment. Around 6 p.m. Friday, Jamestown police said the 19-year-old, whose name was not released, had died.

The 3-year-old was later transferred to Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo and was listed in stable condition.

A firefighter that suffered a burn injury on scene was transported to UPMC Chautauqua.

City fire investigators were called to Kidder Street. The cause of the fire was not known by press time.
