Driver ticketed after Route 20 rollover mishap

OBSERVER Photo by M.J. Stafford Route 20 was closed in the Town of Pomfret after a rollover accident around noon Monday, just to the west of the intersection with Harmon Hill Road. Westbound traffic was getting diverted onto that road and a driver said Eoute 20 eastbound traffic was getting diverted near Brocton. A helicopter was said to be on the way for a victim of the crash. The accident reportedly downed power lines and numerous National Grid trucks were on the scene. The Fredonia Fire Department and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department were among the emergency responders.

A Fredonia woman was ticketed after a rollover accident on Route 20 on Monday that left a passenger with serious injuries.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report they responded to the area of Harmon Hill Road. Upon arrival deputies located a van rolled over on its side.

Through an investigation it was determined the van had been heading westbound on Route 20 and had gone off the road striking several street signs and shearing off an electrical pole. The van then struck a small embankment with its front end causing the van to flip over and role striking the side of barn where it came to rest.

The driver of the vehicle identified was identified as a Selena Diaz, 26. She suffered apparent minor injuries as a result of the accident and was transported by the Fredonia Fire Department to Brooks Memorial Hospital for care. A passenger in the vehicle suffered more serious injuries and as a result was flow by STAT Medevac to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. for care. Diaz was issued a citation for moving from lane unsafely that she will have to answer in Pomfret court.

As a result of the accident Route 20 was shut down for a time.
