Festival of Grapes begins today

SILVER CREEK — The scent of grapes is in the air.

The 55th annual Festival of Grapes commences today in the village. Headquarters located just off Central Avenue in the village will open at noon with merchandise available for purchase. A complete calendar of events for the festival will be available there, as well.

Notable events of the festival on opening day include a 5:30 p.m. opening ceremony tonight in the Village Square near the gazebo; Grape Stomping at 6 p.m. tonight, sponsored by the Festival of Grapes and Silver Creek Amvets, and an ice cream social from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Other notable events this year include a 1938 Ward-Dickinson Dining Car open for dining by Steve’s Diner from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, along with “Cars and Coffee” from 10 a.m. until noon on Sunday at the former Damon Motor’s building. The parade begins later at 1 p.m.

Concerts will take place on all three days of the festival, with Midnight Recovery performing from 7:30 to 10:30 tonight, Joe and the Shmoes from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Reset 2 Vinyl from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and Ion Sky from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Other kid-friendly events include a Kid’s Pedal Tractor Pull tonight at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m., a children’s parade on Saturday at 2 p.m., appearances from Sparky the Fire Dog from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kid’s Tent in the Lower Ball Park and at the Fireman’s Hose Race at North Main Street at 4 p.m. Saturday, and various other attractions at the Kid’s Tent from noon until 7 p.m. on Saturday.
