Police were attempting to confirm the identity of a white male whose body was discovered Monday.

A passerby reportedly came across the partially decomposed remains around noon in a wooded area behind the 100 block of East Second Street. In a news release, the Jamestown Police Department said investigators were looking to confirm the man’s identity with family members.

Members of the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team as well as a county coroner responded to an area behind the wooded area on East First Street.

Crime scene tape and barricades were placed on both East First and Second streets by 2 p.m.

An investigation remains ongoing, JPD said.
