A woman said her son was forced to flee through a second story window after fire broke out at their home Friday.

Jamestown firefighters were alerted at about 12:45 p.m. to reports of heavy smoke coming from 233 Hazzard St., located at the corner of Partridge Street. Crews quickly confirmed there was a working house fire.

A large amount of smoke poured from the home’s windows before flames became visible. City fire crews used several hose lines to attack the fire.

The owner of the property was driving when she said she received a call from a relative informing her that the house was on fire. She told The Post-Journal that her son was at home when the fire broke out and was forced to escape through a window on the second floor to avoid the flames and smoke.

No serious injuries were reported.

The owner, who wished not to be identified, said the family had three dogs inside. It was not immediately clear if all managed to get out safely Friday.

Jamestown firefighters remained on Hazzard Street for several hours. Officers with the Jamestown Police Department also responded.

Two city fire investigators were eventually requested at the scene; the cause of the fire was not known by press time Friday.
