Man indicted in crash that killed South Dayton woman

Randall J. Rolison

New charges were announced against a Jamestown man who was behind the wheel of a sport utility vehicle in a crash that killed a woman last December in the town of Arkwright.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt on Monday announced a grand jury indictment against Randall Rolison. The 59-year-old, already facing charges from a December 2021 accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl, is now facing felony counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, a class B felony, and second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony. Rolison also is awaiting trial on weapons possession charges in a separate case.

“I just want the public to know that I’m doing everything in my power to see that justice is served for the deaths of Lexi Hughan and Linda Kraemer,” Schmidt told The Post-Journal. “It’s unimaginable to all of us that we are in this position — that the same man charged with causing the death of a 15-year-old child a year earlier could then be freed to cause another person’s death.”

According to the New York State Police, Rolison was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Trail Blazer on Dec. 3 of last year when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Route 83 and Center Road in Arkwright. The SUV collided with a 2018 Ford F-150 resulting in the death of Linda Kraemer, a 71-year-old passenger in the pickup truck, and serious injuries to her 71-year-old husband who was driving.

Rolison, who is being represented by the Chautauqua County Public Defender’s Office, was arraigned Feb. 28 in Chautauqua County Court on the latest indictment; he is currently being held without bail, Schmidt said in a statement.

At the time of the Dec. 3 fatal collision, the city man was out on bail awaiting trial on charges of second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while ability impaired by drugs related to a Dec. 31, 2021, crash in Jamestown that killed 15-year-old Alexis Catherine Hughan. Rolison was operating a car hauler that New Year’s Eve when the semi struck Hughan as she walked across West Sixth Street.

Hughan was pronounced dead at the scene.
