Vacant home damaged in city fire

The vacant home at 532 Columbus Ave. is a total loss.

A fire in the city early this morning is being labeled by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department investigators as incendiary and has been turned over to the Dunkirk Police Department.

The Dunkirk Fire Department crews were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 12:05 a.m. at 532 Columbus Ave. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire conditions in the rear of a one-story house. The house was vacant and boarded secure. Firefighters attacked the fire from the exterior before making entry to extinguish the remainder of the fire.

A shed in the rear of the property was also damaged by fire. The nearby house was protected from damage with the quick knock down of the fire. There were no injuries.

East Dunkirk Fire assisted with manpower at the fire. Sheridan EMS and county EMS stood by at the scene.
