A Barrows Street home in Jamestown was heavily damaged in a fire that broke out early Thursday.
An unoccupied residence in Jamestown was destroyed in a fire that broke out early Thursday.
City firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 231 Barrows St. around 1:30 a.m. and discovered heavy fire at the rear of the two and a half story property. Crews worked to protect a neighboring structure before a search confirmed no one was inside.
Battalion Chief Brian Achterberg said two firefighters were injured at the scene. One of the firefighters was transported to the hospital for treatment of a lower body injury, he said.
The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities responded early Thursday to Barrows to shut off the property’s electricity.
Six off-shift firefighters assisted at the scene; most crews were cleared by 7 a.m., Achterberg said.
City fire investigators were looking into the cause of the blaze. An investigation remained ongoing, Achterberg said.
