KENNEDY — A 68-year-old man was pronounced dead after fire broke out at his town of Poland residence Sunday morning.

The blaze at 973 Poland Center Road remains under investigation, Trooper James O’Callahan with the New York State Police said Monday.

State troopers and a host of volunteer fire companies were alerted around 8 a.m. to the fire inside a mobile home. The residence is located south of Route 394 in the town of Poland.

O’Callahan said Chautauqua County fire investigators were looking into the cause of the blaze. He said the Forensic Identification Unit with the New York State Police assisted with removing the male’s body from the residence.

An autopsy will determine the cause of the man’s death, O’Callahan said.

The 68-year-old was the lone occupant of the residence. His name has not yet been released.

Questions to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office regarding Sunday’s fire were referred to the State Police.
