A winter storm warning is in effect for Chautauqua County beginning at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Heavy snow expected with total accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph resulting in areas of blowing snow late Sunday into Sunday night.

The greatest amounts of snow will be across higher terrain, with less snow accumulating near the shoreline and Interstate 90.

The warning is in effect until 5 a.m. Monday.

Forecasters warn travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Gusty winds also could bring down tree branches.
