Deputies seek owners of stolen guns

SHERMAN – Law enforcement officials have recovered five guns which are believed to have been stolen.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, a parole check on Thursday led to the seizure of five long guns. During the check, information was obtained that Marcus Detweiler, 20, had in his possession one shotgun and four rifles. Sheriff’s Investigators obtained a search warrant for the property of 3969 Rt 76 in the town of Sherman. A search of the property led to the seizure of the five firearms.

Deputies said all guns are believed to be stolen. Detweiler was charged with five counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office to be arraigned under the Centralized Arraignment Program.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone who believes one of the following guns may be theirs or someone they know to contact the office either through the narcotics tip line or direct to the Sheriff’s Office. The guns in question are a Winchester model 9422M XTR .22 Magnum rifle, A Savage Axis 308, a Winchester .22 cal Model 190 rifle, a 12ga Eclipse Leader double barrel shotgun, and a Ithaca M-49 .22 cal Rifle.
