Eastbound lanes of Thruway have reopened

Traffic is back to normal on the New York State Thruway and Route 20 in Chautauqua County. As of 4 a.m. today, the Thruway eastbound at exit 60 in Westfield to exit 59 in Fredonia was reopened three hours ahead of schedule after the successful operation to remove a damage piece of the North Road bridge, the Thruway Authority reported.

Highway officials are now focused on weekend travel, which is expected to increase as a total solar eclipse will occur with the path of totality crossing much of upstate New York on Monday. It is expected that this event will draw visitors from across the northeast to view this rare phenomenon.

Travelers are still encouraged to arrive at their destination early and leave well after the eclipse has ended. Travelers should expect long delays on roadways throughout the state on Monday and Tuesday.
