Woman charged with fleeing police twice in three weeks

A homeless woman is facing charges after allegedly running from police during two different vehicle chases weeks apart.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, on March 18, around 1:45 a.m. deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Route 380 in Gerry. The vehicle failed to stop and lead deputies on a vehicle pursuit into the towns of Ellery and Stockton.

Due to weather conditions the pursuit was terminated but deputies followed the vehicle for safety reasons. A short time later the vehicle went into a ditch and rolled. The operator fled the scene.

The K-9 team was called out to assist. Officers were able to track the operator about two miles through the woods to a cabin in the town of Ellery, where they located Savannah T. Dorsey-Carter, 24. She was taken to a hospital due to her injuries and warrants were issued.

On Tuesday around 3:40 a.m. Chautauqua County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to assist Pennsylvania authorities in a vehicle pursuit that was headed to New York. The pursuit ended in the town of Mina before ending at a residence where the operator fled the scene into the woods.

Neighbors were able to locate the operator and detain her until deputies arrived a short time later.

The suspect was identified as Dorsey-Carter, who had allegedly been involved in the chase three weeks prior.

She was taken to the hospital before being taken to the Sheriff’s Office where she will face her charges. Those charges include two counts of speeding, reckless driving, unsafe moving from lane, second-degree burglary, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
