Brotherly dispute leads to assault with hammer

WESTFIELD — A 69-year-old man is facing second-degree assault charges after striking his brother with a metal hammer in the neck.

Westfield police report they responded to the domestic dispute at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at 15 W. Second St. During the investigation, police say Peter H. Mott had a verbal and physical confrontation with his brother. He allegedly struck him in the neck with the hammer. During the altercation, the victim struck back at Mott with a porcelain coffee cup in self defense.

Mott was charged with the felony while the victim was transported by Westfield Rescue to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.
