Arrest made in high speed chase
An out-of-state resident has been charged following a high speed chase in Northern Chautauqua County.
According to the county Sheriff’s Office, on Monday around 9:30 a.m. deputies were alerted to a report of a vehicle moving at a high rate of speed and illegally passing other vehicles on Rt. 20 in the town of Sheridan. The vehicle in question was located by deputies in Silver Creek who attempted to stop the driver, later identified as Yubislando Rivas Rivas, 33, of Ames, Iowa for traffic violations.
Rivas Rivas allegedly failed to comply and led deputies on a brief high speed pursuit on Rts 5 and 20 in Irving.
After terminating the pursuit, Rivas Rivas was later located by the town of Hamburg Police Department and was taken into custody.
Rivas Rivas was charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and numerous other traffic violations.
Rivas Rivas was released with appearance tickets and is set to appear in the town of Hanover court at a later date and time.
