Two injured in motorcycle crash

MAPLE SPRINGS – Two Mayville residents were injured in a motorcycle accident late Sunday night after being hit by a vehicle.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Ruth Savchuk, 90, of Mentor, Ohio, was traveling in her vehicle west on Rt 430 around 10:30 pm when she attempted to make a left hand turn onto Summit Avenue in the town of Ellery.

Deputies said Savchuk failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle which was traveling east on Rt. 430 and struck the motorcycle, causing it to go off of the roadway. The motorcycle operator, Colin Keefe, 23 and his passenger, Amber Eichelbereger, 21, were transported to UPMC Hamot by Stat Medivac for treatment of their injuries.

The investigation is ongoing with charges pending.

Also responding to the crash were representatives with the Maple Springs, Bemus Point, and Dewittville fire departments, along with the Chautauqua County Emergency Medical Service.
