U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy held a press conference this morning to announce that $4.75 million in federal funding has been secured for the Dunkirk Harbor Living Shoreline Project. This critical investment was included in the Fiscal Year 2025 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill (H.R. 8752), which was passed by the House in June.

“Growing up, I spent many summers visiting the Dunkirk Harbor, so being able to secure $4.75 million in federal funding for the Living Shoreline Project is incredibly fulfilling,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This investment will protect the harbor from severe weather, support local businesses, and ensure future generations can enjoy it just as we have. I’m proud to advocate for the Southern Tier throughout the House appropriations process and return hard-earned tax dollars for meaningful projects that will make a real difference.”

The funding will go toward designing and constructing offshore breakwaters and creating a living shoreline that will protect Dunkirk Harbor from increasingly severe weather events that have threatened the area’s infrastructure and economic health. This federal funding comes through a Community Project Funding request submitted by Langworthy during the House appropriations process for FY25.
