Storm causes power outage in Hanover

OBSERVER Staff Report

HANOVER — A widespread power outage in the town of Hanover was caused by a storm late Wednesday afternoon.

Reports of a tree falling onto a power line on Routes 5 and 20 near Save A Lot left many residences and businesses without power. According to one source, an electrical current caused the road to catch fire. At the time of the incident, the responding crew said it could be up to four hours until the road would be reopened.

Initial reports indicated it was still unclear if the solar panels located nearby were impacted. The area is also undergoing construction due to the Routes 5 and 20 lane reduction project by the Department of Transportation. It is also unclear what if any damage has been done to that ongoing project.
